The members of this new team typically had darker backgrounds, including Osborn himself, who led them as the Iron Patriot. Osborn's leadership came to an end during the Siege of Asgard, which resulted in the deaths of Dark Avengers Ares and the Sentry, Osborn's imprisonment, and the dissolution of H.A.M.M.E.R. Although this marked the end of the original Dark Avengers, various versions of the team have appeared since then.
