Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997), known by his stage names the Notorious B.I.G., Biggie Smalls, and Biggie, was an American rapper. He was deeply rooted in the New York rap scene and the traditions of gangsta rap, and he is widely regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time. Wallace was recognized for his distinctive, laid-back lyrical delivery, which contrasted with the often grim content of his lyrics.
