Gundam is a Japanese military fiction media franchise created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise (now Bandai Namco Filmworks), the franchise features giant robots, or mecha, with the name "Gundam". The franchise began on April 7, 1979, with Mobile Suit Gundam, a TV series that defined the mecha anime genre by featuring giant robots called mobile suits in a militaristic setting. The popularity of the series spawned a franchise that includes, TV series, manga, novels, video games and a whole industry of plastic model kits known as Gunpla.
The original Gundam, the RX-78-2 appears again to celebrate the combined technological and artistic advancements in the Master Grade line since its release 5 years ago. This 3.0 is based on the giant statue present at the Gundam Front Tokyo exhibit in Japan and features its characteristic multi-tone colours. With the goal of having an intricate movement system in the arms and legs with sliding hatches and the individually articulated fingers of Emotion Manipulator SP first used on the Nu Ver. Ka, the Gundam 3.0 features unprecedented expressive movement and exterior surface detail.
