Apparating into Harry's life and causing all sorts of havoc at the start of his second year at Hogwarts, Dobby was only doing what he could to keep Harry safe. Although extremely inconvenient at best, and downright infuriating at worst, he was rewarded by Harry at the end of the year when he tricked Lucius Malfoy into giving Dobby a sock, freeing him from his enslavement with the Malfoys. Ever selfless, Dobby continued to assist the trio through the years by any means he could, eventually giving his life to save them a few months before the Battle of Hogwarts.
